Summer Hair Forecast | Protect Your Natural Hair From The Water

natural hair beach

My favorite season is finally here and it’s time for us to let our hair down–come on big ass afro and wash n go!  When the weather heats we flock to the water to cool off, but doing so can wreak havoc on our natural hair.

THE WATER

There’s no greater time of the year to partake in water activities but whether it’s chlorine from the pool or salt water from he ocean, both substances can dry out your locks. With the appropriate precautions and products your natural hair can survive all your summer water activities.

WATER PROTECTION

Before swimming apply a cream to your natural hair to create a barrier between your hair and the water’s elements.  If you’re not wearing a swim cap–like most of us–apply a conditioner to your hair and if your hair is long enough, put it up in a top knot or bun to reduce the amount of calorie or salt water your hair will absorb.  Immediately after your swim, cleanse your scalp and hair with shampoo or co-wash to remove the water elements and excess product.
